DJBInstruments UK Ltd has announced the successful application of their water cooled IEPE traxial accelerometer at a new record high of 900°C. Whilst the company
specifies the unit to be used at 800°C customers often routinely use it above this recommended level.
The overseas customer, who prefers to remain confidential, has used the IEPE voltage output accelerometer for many years as part of their turbocharger
testing procedures for both development and production checking and have found the operating temperature of their units gradually increasing and as a result
the accelerometer temperature has also risen.
DJB said of the application 'This doesn't really surprise us, in theory we believe it can be used at even higher temperatures, our only problem is that we don't have the testing equipment to prove it'....'what is even more amazing is that the core temperature of the accelerometer is measured at just 33°C even though the surface temperature is over 900°C and the cooling system used is so simple, a windsreen washer pump and a 5 litre water container that isn't even chilled.'
The company is interested in finding potential applications for the accelerometer that would test it beyond 900°C, if you have a high temperature application contact the sales team for more information.
